Comparini

Stefano Rosselli noted that the Comparini, a family of brickmasons from Lastra a Signa, added curving handles to the vase on their coat of arms in order to claim lineage to a bishop from the Kingdom of Naples of the same name. He criticized them for making this change to their arms without any proof of relation to said bishop.

S. Frediano 10 Altare de Comparini b

Notes

  • [a] The Comparini listed by Litchfield seem to be those catalogued as Ceramelli Papiani 1614, not this group.
  • [b] In his entry on the Comparini altar, Rosselli noted that it was for the descendants of on Benedetto Comparini, whose patronymic is given with five generations. Whether or not the name Benedetto di Papi di Bartolomeo di Papi di Nanni di Nencio Comparini appeared on the altar or Rosselli found this information in other sources is unclear.
