Buonaparte

Ceramelli Papiani offers four different coats of arms and several neighborhoods with partial explanation that the family divided in the 13th century into two factions, one ghibelline and the other guelf, who remained in Florence. Gules shield with a pair of argent bends and stars was used by the S. Spirito family (type 1) as confirmed by marker found in S. Spirito cloister. Litchfield separates this family into two with the Buonaparte as registered in Libri di Oro as Nobles in 1752, anciently magnates and distinct from the Buonaparte Franchini, who had little claim to standing in Republic and were registered in Libri di Oro as patricians in 1763 but extinct in 1790
