  • [a] Surprisingly, the tomb's coat of arms puts the wife's family on the left (dexter) side. The patron, Niccolò Bini, may have made this choice because the Ricasoli were of higher status than the Bini, or because he installed the tomb at the time of her death. Whatever the reason, putting the woman's arms in the pride of place is extraordinary and unusal.
