I was founded by pope Gregory X in honor of Saint Gregory and also for the love of Christ. Here the Ghibelline disputes with the Guelfs ended and the peace under whose light I was created was stipulated. Shining serenly on the twelfth day of July of the year of the Lord 1273, in the presence and with the common consent of the Emperor of Byzantium and the King of Sicily, in 1273 this beautiful chapel of peace was founded by Gregory X and built by the Mozzi. |
