A pilgrims' hospital and oratory once stood side by side in the portion of the via dei Malcontenti now known as via San Giuseppe. Today, only the oratory remains.

  • [a] Prior to its acquisition by the Compagnia di Santa Maria della Croce al Tempio in the mid fourteenth century, a hospital existed at the corner of via de'Macci and via dei Malcontenti under the leadership of an otherwise unknown Giovanni.
  • [b] Simone de Buonarrota left funds in his 1428 testament to enlarge the pilgrims' hospital and guest house.
  • [c] The hospital may have belonged to the Confraternity as early as its founding in 1356.
