Buonavolti

The Priorista Mariani registers this family twice, first as "Petri" and then as "Bonavolti." Both entries cite the same tomb in Santa Maria Novella as proof of their arms, consisting of a horizontally divided shield with a pair of griffins. Only the Bonavolti entry provides colors.

Notes

  • [a] If Piero di Bonavolta, prior in 1298/99 was indeed part of this family, then they would qualify as popolani under Padgett's ranking system. If not, then their first prior was Bartolomeo di Marco del Pela Bonavolti in 1393, making them new-new-men. Padgett did not include them in his dataset.
