Notes

  • [a] The sources do not have a good explanation as to why the Bilenchi family has such diverse coats of arms. The prioriste indicate that the quartered gold and black shield comes from the Libro Antico d'Armi of 1302 while the other comes from Pietro Monaldi. Howard Wills gives preference to the authority of the Libro of 1302 though concedes that the family may have recieved the right to bear the arms of a defeated enemy. The third arms of gold and blue with a red lily is reported in the Libro of 1302 and MS 471.

Though several family members are known to have been buried in Santa Maria Novella, it remains unclear whether they had a tomb there.
