  • [a] One of six children of Niccolò dell'Antella and Costanza del Barbigia, Donato was a knight of the Order of St. Stephen and appointed as Grand Chancellor of the Order in 1620. He was gentiluomo to Medici Duke Ferdinando II, a member of the Council of 200, and senator (January 16th 1643). He also held chair in metaphysics at the Studio pisano from 1634 to 1654. Twice widowed, he became a priest in 1631 and declared his universal heir to be the church of SS. Annunziata, where a tomb with effigy was installed in his honor in 1702, thirty-five years after his death in January 1667.
