Paolo Sassetti recorded in his diary "that on Wednesday, August 26, 1383, it pleased our Lord God to claim the blessed soul of our eldest brother Bernardo. He was buried in S. Maria Novella in our marble tomb. We gave him those honors which were permitted by the Commune in time of plague. May God grant him peace, amen." A church necrology records that Bernardo was known by the nickname "Reda" and that he was buried wearing the Dominican habit, indicating that he must have professed as a Dominican tertiary at some point prior to his death. A family tree dated 1726 indicates that he had a brother named Reda, but this could be an error.
