Though he worked as a professional painter and manuscript illuminator, Zanobi Strozzi never joined the painters' guild, which was part of the Arte dei Medici e Speziali. Mirella Levi d'Ancona and other speculate this lack of guild participation was due to his membership in the Strozzi family, many of whom were exiled by the Medici in 1434.
