Description

According to the Badia's Libro dei defunti, messer Piero Antonio, then serving the Ferrarese duke Alfonso d'Este (r. 1504-1534), died while on a mission in Florence. His corpse was placed in a temporary grave in the chapel dedicated to the Crucifixion, that is, the chapel to the north of the high altar, where it remained for an unspecified time before being taken back to Ferrara for reburial.
