  • [a] Kohl (2018, p. 153, n14) confuses Leonardo's lineage believing his father to be a son of chancellor messer Coluccio Salutati. Francesco was a judge (giudice), son of the notary ser Luporo Salutati. They hailed from Pescia.
  • [b] According to Salvini's Catalogo cronologico de’ canonici, Leonardo di messer Francesco di ser Lupero Salutati J.C. became a canon at Florence cathedral in 1438. He was also canon at Pisa and Fiesole.
  • [c] According to Salvini's Catalogo cronologico de’ canonici, Leonardo also served as piovano di S. Giuliano a Settimo before being appointed to Pescia in 1445.
  • [d] Appointed by pope Nicholas V (r. 1447-1455), Leonardo was bishop of Fiesole from 1450 through his death in 1466.
