Description

Giovan Battista di Francesco Ferrucci identified himself as Battista Mattia in the dedicatory inscription on the tomb he either renovated or installed anew in the Cathedral of Fiesole in honor of men he believed to be his ancestors. His activity as a sculptor is documented between 1565 and 1589. He died in 1617. Sandro Bellesi notes that he was buried in Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence, but there is no mention of his burial in the friars' Libro Padronati.

[a] Given that he carved and dedicated a new tomb to his supposed ancestor bishop Bindo on March 18th, 1589, it seems highly likely that he was also responsible for the two small altars that carried the Ferrucci family arms.
