According to the Ceramelli Papiani archive, Cesare Bombicci (b. 1818), in 1834, inherited the estate of Enrico Pontelli, a member of the nobility in Cortona. He then adopted the double name Bombicci Pontelli, as was common when inheritance went to a male in the maternal line. He was still alive, or only recently deceased, in 1904, when his name appeared among the members of the Reale Società Toscana di Orticultura--a Florence-based horticultural society promoting gardening and plant science under royal patronage. He was a “socio di 2ª categoria,” that is, a regular, paying member, recognized and involved, but not among the top-tier patrons or leaders.
He seems to have had a significant art collection, some of which was purchased by Contini-Bonaccossi and eventually Samuel Kress.
