In his 1677 revision of Francesco Bocchi's Le Bellezze delle città di Fiorenza, Giovanni Cinelli claimed that the face of the Archangel Gabriel in Santi di Tito's Annunciation painted for the Vecchietti altar in Santa Maria Novella in about 1602 or 1603 was a portrait of the young Virgilio Carnesecchi.
