[a] According to Stefano Farinelli, despite Giorgio Vasari's credit to Antonia Vespucci as sole patron of this monument, the tomb was originally commissioned by Antonio Strozzi himself, who hired Andrea Ferrucci to undertake the project. According to Vasari in his biography of the artist, the elder sculptor relied on Silvio Cosini and Maso Boscoli to do the bulk of the work. At Antonio's death, the project was stalled, and taken up again in early 1524 at the behest of Antonio's widow Antonia. Silvio Cosini seems to have installed the monument on his own in 1525.
