Notes

  • [a] It is tempting to identify this tomb's honoree with the ser Filippo di Lucca, resident in the parish of San Remigio between 1279 and 1321, as reported by Mastursi. He had four sons, who could be the heirs referenced in the tomb's inscription. The concession of the memorial to Matteo di Giovanni da Lama seems to have occurred before 1439 since it noted in the earliest Santa Croce sepoltuario as well as that of 1596.
  • [b] If the tomb honors ser Filippo di Lucca, his brother Ser Giovanni di Lucca may have been one of his brother's heirs and thus buried in the tomb that carried his name.
  • [c] If this tomb honors the notary ser Filippo di Lucca da Firenze, then ser Riccardo was one of the "heirs" referenced in its inscription, suggesting a strong likelihood of his burial at Santa Croce.
  • [d] If this tomb honors the notary ser Filippo di Lucca da Firenze, then Bartolomeo was one of the "heirs" referenced in its inscription, suggesting a strong likelihood of his burial at Santa Croce.
  • [e] If this tomb honors the notary ser Filippo di Lucca da Firenze, then Conte was one of the "heirs" referenced in its inscription, suggesting a strong likelihood of his burial at Santa Croce.
  • [f] If this tomb honors the notary ser Filippo di Lucca da Firenze, then Bartolomeo was one of the "heirs" referenced in its inscription, suggesting a strong likelihood of his burial at Santa Croce.
  • [g] Though the tomb inscription honors the heirs of "ser Filippo di Luca," if this notary is the same man who was father to ser Riccardo, Conte, Bartolomeo, and Giovanni of the parish of San Remigio, then it is possible he was buried in the tomb set up by and for them.
