  • [a] It may be more correct to say that Niccolò di Chiaro di Bene added to his ancestral tomb rather than replaced it, but since it no longer survives it is impossible to say. It seems that he inherited the tomb and at some point after 1439 added a sculpted relief with his arms and name, as Stefano Rosselli says: "It is carved with the words S. Nicolò Chiari Beni et filioru." (Vi è scolpito S. Niccolò Chiari Beni et filioru.)
