Notes

  • [a] Bartolomeo Cederni was buried in the tomb he had installed in 1456.
  • [b] By 1520, the monks were using the Cederni tomb for the burials of others, referring to it as "ours" (sepultura de Cederni la quale è oggi nostra, Libro dei defunti, fol. 10). However, another Cederni family member, the wife of an otherwise unnamed Cederni, was buried in the family tomb in 1540. Hers was the only Cederni family burial noted in the Badia's Libro dei defunti.
  • [c] Because only the year appears on Bartolomeo's chiusino, he is most likely its patron. Moreover, he commissioned a chapel in the parish of San Romolo around this time.
  • [d] The Libro dei defunti records how the monks moved the bones of Francesco di Chimenti which had been in deposit in the chapel of S. Filippo since 1508 to the Cederni tomb, which by that time was being used by the monastery.
  • [e] The altarpiece was begun on August 18th, 1461. It is not known when it was delivered nor where it was installed though near to the tomb of its patron, Bartolomeo Cederni, is a logical guess.
