Notes

  • [] VANNUCCI, Pietro, detto il Perugino by Cecilia Martelli www.treccani.it/biografico
  • [a] In 1507, Perugino completed the large polyptych commissioned by the Servites for their high altar in Santissima Annunziata. Though he moved his workshop to the Umbrian town of Fontignano in 1511, Perugino procured this Florentine tomb for himself and his family in 1515. (see Martelli) However, he died in Fontignano of plague in 1523 and was buried on the outskirts of town. Bones discovered in the 1920s were identified as his, and a monument was later set up in the Chiesa dell’Annunziata of Fontignano to contain them.
