Notes

  • [a] According to Gaetano Milanesi, Dono di Paolo became a Florentine citizen in 1373, which may have inspired him to install a tomb in Santo Spirito, though he could well have done so earlier or later.
  • [b] arms and inscription
  • [c] Though Vasari reported Uccello's death in 1432 and burial at Santa Maria Novella, Milanesi notes that he in fact died on December 11th, 1475 and was buried in his father's tomb in Santo Spirito.
  • [d] It stands to reason that Donato was buried in the tomb established by his grandfather for himself and his descendants.
  • [e] Gaetano Milanesi notes that Donato Baldovinetti was the one to inherit the estate of the painter Paolo Uccello, whose father Dono had established the family tomb in Santo Spirito.
  • [f] arms and inscription
