Notes

  • [a] There is a discrepancy in the order of concession in the sources. The original 1439 sepoltuario only names Andrea da Sommaia as owner of the tomb. The copy kept in the Archivio di Santa Croce says it passed from the Aglioni family to Giuliano d'Andrea barbiere who left the Compagnia di Orsanmichele as his heir, which in turn conceded the tomb to Dante da Sommaia. The copy kept at the Archivio di Stato di Firenze, as well as Rosselli, reverse the order saying it went from Dante da Sommaia to the barber to the confraternity. However, given that the Priorista Mariani mentions the tomb in his sketch on the da Sommaia, it seems likely that the Archivio Santa Croce record is correct and that the da Sommaia were the last owners of the tomb.
  • [b] Given that Giuliano does not appear in the 1427 catasto, we assume he was dead no later than that year.
  • [c] The barber Giuliano d'Andrea left the Orsanmichele confraternity as his heir, which in turn conceded the tomb to the da Sommaia family.
