Virtue indeed bestowed integrity of character upon him, and he first, when the Florentines consulted him, responded for a long time on matters of law to great acclaim. Soon he became consistorial advocate, then commissioner of the Apostolic Chamber, and later clerk of the same. He rendered good service to Pope Gregory XIII, but while preparing for greater things through the merits of his virtue, he exchanged death for life. [frame inscription]
