Pietro Dini, a Florentine of noble lineage, also nephew (through his sister) of Cardinal Bandini, was elected the fourth archbishop by Gregory XV in the year 1621, on the ninth day of April. A prelate indeed, as he showed himself to me at Rome, second to none in purity of character and affability, and in learning such that he was no less skilled in Greek than in Latin, and seemed to imitate and express very closely and successfully the exalted virtues of his uncle. Moreover, while he was flourishing both in rank and in distinguished learning, untimely death carried him off in 1625, on the fourteenth day of August; and he was buried in the cathedral near his kinsman Strozzi, after he had previously adorned the chapel of Saint Philip and left behind an elegant library. |
