[a] Rosselli describes coats of arms decorating the arches of the hospital's loggia that connected it to the Spedale di Bonifazio. He is vague about how they were displayed and he says nothing specific about the third type, which displayed a silver brocca, a type of lidded pitcher, on a blue shield.
[b] Rosselli notes the presence of three different coats of arms, the Broccardi arms with wing and paw flanked by those of the Arte de Calimala on the left and a second Broccardi coat of arms -- perhaps a symbol of the hospital itself -- on the right.
[c] Piero di Francesco Broccardi placed the hospital under the administration of the Calimala guild, which was his universal heir.
[d] The decoration of the loggia with the arms of the family and the guild to whom they assigned oversight may have been instigated by Piero di Francesco Broccardi.
