Notes

  • [a] For more on the altarpiece see Daniela Parenti's essay on the website of Le Gallerie degli Uffizi where she cites J. Ruda, Fra Filippo Lippi (London: 1993), cat. no. 37; M. Holmes, Fra Filippo Lippi. The Carmelite Painter (London: New Haven, 1999), pp. 223–231; and L. Bortolotti, Lippi, Filippo in Dizionario biografico degli italiani, 65, Rome 2005.
  • [b] When Stefano Rosselli saw Lippi's altarpiece, it had been moved to the north wall of the church. It was later moved to the sacristy and stolen after 1755.
  • [c] After being recovered through the dealer Angelo Volpini, Lippi's altarpiece entered the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence.
  • [d] Lippi's painting has been in the collection of the Uffizi since 1913.
