  • [a] In 1330 according to the modern calendar, ser Michele di Croce Broccardi founded the hospital for the purpose of aiding pilgrims and poor travelers.
  • [b] A Broccardi family tomb was installed in 1411.
  • [c] According to Rosselli, the hospital was the first home of the community known as the Spedale degl'Abbandonati. After they outgrew the space, they relocated to Santa Caterina.
