Monastero di Monte Domini

A Franciscan convent was established in 1311 outside the city walls at the Porta San Gallo. The complex was destroyed in 1529 during the siege, and the nuns temporarily lived at the convent of San Francesco before moving in 1531 to a portion of the Ospedale degli Ammorbati di San Sebastiano in via dei Malcontenti, which they renovated as their new home adjacent to the nuns of Santa Maria a Monticelli, also displaced in the siege. The building described by Rosselli is this later convent, which was ultimately suppressed in 1810. The hospital was originally under the auspices of Santa Maria Nuova for use as a plague hospital; it too was destroyed during the siege and ultimately given over to the nuns of Montedomini and Monticelli who built contiguous communities.
