  • [a] The Benvenuti family adopted Nobili as their surname after the honor was granted to them by the King of France in 1379. Whether they added the name or their new arms to the tomb slab of Francesco Benvenuti is not known.
  • [b] The sepoltuari indicate that Nobili arms decorated the memorial, which could have happened only after the family adopted them along with their new name in 1379.
  • [c] In 1379 the King of France gave Bernardo di Cino Benvenuti noble status, and the family subsequently changed their name to Nobili and their arms to include the French fleur-de-lis .
