Faffi

This family had one prior, Lapo del Bene, who was associated with the Carro district of the sesto S. Pier Scheraggio and installed a tomb in the north cemetery of Santa Croce that carried only an inscription. Priorists took the coat of arms from a tomb in Santa Felicita dedicated by Niccolò Faffi, but it is possible that he belonged to a different group and that his arms should not be associated with Lapo.

Notes

  • [a] The Faffi appeared in Carlo Strozzi's list of families omitted by Verino.
  • [b] Stefano Rosselli notes that some antiquarians assign these arms to the Faffi, but if the eagle is silver and the field is divided horizontally (party per fess) as Rosselli indicates, then they belong to another group.
  • [c] The family's only prior, Lapo del Bene, was elected to office from this district and sestiere.
  • [d] The Priorista Mariani used a tomb and coat of arms from a monument in Santa Felicita dedicated to one Niccolò Faffi, though it is possible that he and his arms belonged to a separate family from Lapo del Bene.
  • [e] The father of this family's only prior, Bene di Benvenuto di Faffo is documented as living in this parish in 1269.
