[a] According to Lamberini, by 1 September 1603 Matteo had been appointed cosmographer of the Grand Duke (cosmografo del granduca) with a salary of ten scudi a month to make maps (carte di geografia).
[b] Matteo's tomb carries the date 1619. Daniela Lamberini reports that he endowed the altar above it in his testament of 23 March 1622.
[c] Lamberini cites both the Medici Speziali and Grascia books of the dead for Matteo's date of death.
[d] According to Lamberini, Matteo was born in Peccioli in Valdera in the Pisan contado.
