Notes

  • [a] According to Giovanni Poggi (1904), Chiaro's will, drawn up by ser Niccolò di Zanobi di Matteo di Pavona can be found in ASFi, Diplomatico, Carmine, 4 agosto 1377.
  • [b] testament
  • [c] Records kept by Chiaro's universal heir, the Compagnia del Bigallo, make clear that the chapel of the Annunciation was built prior to Chiaro's testament and death.
  • [d] With his bequest of August 4th, 1377, Chiaro left funds to endow his chapel dedicated to the Annunciation and established three perpetual masses on the feasts of the Annunciation (March 25th), St. Nicholas (December 6th), and the Immaculate Conception (December 8th). The two feasts of the Virgin were celebrated at this Altar of the Annunciation.
  • [e] Given that Chiaro left his estate to the Bigallo confraternity, he was most likely a member.
  • [f] Chiaro requested burial wearing the Carmelite habit, which indicates he must have joined as a converso or friar prior to his death.
