Notes

  • [a] Records kept by the Captains of the Bigallo Confraternity indicate that Chiaro had built a chapel dedicated to the Annunication during his lifetime and requested burial in the tomb built inside of it.
  • [b] Chiaro d'Ardinghello ritagliatore dei panni di popolo S. Frediano endowed the chapel he built during his lifetime and dedicated to the Annunciation to hold a mass on its feast day, March 25th. The Captains of the Bigallo were responsible for carrying out his testamentary wishes.
  • [c] Dianora, niece of Chiaro d'Ardinghello, leaves a house to the Carmine to generate funds for the repair and continued upkeep of her uncle's chapel. See Libro Padronati p. 86 and Poggi, p. 200.
  • [d] Records kept by Chiaro's universal heir, the Compagnia del Bigallo, make clear that the chapel of the Annunciation was built prior to Chiaro's testament and death.
  • [e] With his bequest of August 4th, 1377, Chiaro left funds to endow his chapel dedicated to the Annunciation and established three perpetual masses on the feasts of the Annunciation (March 25th), St. Nicholas (December 6th), and the Immaculate Conception (December 8th). The two feasts of the Virgin were celebrated at this Altar of the Annunciation.
  • [f] restoration through sale of half a house left to Compagnia di S. Agnesa
