Benedicto Varchio poetae, philosopho atque historico, qui cum annos LXIII summa animi libertate sine ulla avaritia aut ambitione iucunde vixisset obiit non invitus. XVI Kalendas Decembris MDLXVI Silvanus Razzius sacrae huius aedis coenobita amico optimo ponendum curavit.
For Benedetto Varchi poet, philosopher, and historian, who, because he had happily lived 63 years with the greatest freedom of the mind without any meanness and ambition, died not unwilling. On the 16th Kalends of December 1566 [November 19th], Silvano Razzi of this sacred monastic church took care that this [tombstone] be placed for his best friend.
