Notes

  • [a] Discrepancies in the sources make it difficult to identify the honorees and owners of this tomb. The 1439 and 1596 sepoltuari note that the inscription honored Nozzi de Uidis/de Guidis and was inherited by Thaddeo Guidi. The 1596 copy in the Archivio di Stato di Firenze left the coat-of-arms placeholder blank. Stefano Rosselli, however, inverted the letters of the surname indicating it had belonged to the Giudi family and drew their arms of a red shield crossed by a silver horizontal band. The son and grandsons of Nozzo Giudi, resident in the parish of Santo Stefano al Ponte, where the family had a tomb, are recorded in Parte Guelfa documents related to the sale of five houses in 1360. See Vieri Mazzoni, “Il patrimonio fondiario e le strategie insediative della Parte Guelfa di Firenze nel primo Trecento.” Archivio Storico Italiano 154, no. 1 (567) (1996): 3–31, p. 20.
