plaque: This ancient coat of arms of the Tedaldi family and formerly visible on the tomb of Maffeo, Florentine knight, in 1295, with it having been thoroughly worn away, lest the memory of so great a man of excellent merit from the republic be lost, master Evangelista Tedaldi, prior of Santissima Annunziata, took care that it be restored here in the year 1663.

Notes

[a] Placido Puccinelli reports that the renovated Tedaldi tomb was in the new chapter room. It was likely moved to the small cloister during nineteenth-century renovations.
[b] The carved coat of arms may be a fragment of the original tomb of messer Maffeo Tedaldi, freshened up during its reinstallation in 1663 with a clarification of the forms and new inscription.
