Notes

  • [a] It is possible that the date of 1452 refers to a renovation or later intervention rather than the tomb's installation, since the "domini Ubertini" named in the inscription may be the lawyer messer Ubertino di Geri Strozzi, active at the turn of the fourteenth century. Later sources record that the descendants of Ubertino held patronage rights to the church of S. Miniato tra le Torri through the late sixteenth century. Alternatively, the transcription may preserve an error, reading MCCCCLII for MCCCLII, a date that would accord more closely with the lifetime of messer Ubertino's sons, the "filiorum domini Ubertini" named in the tomb's inscription.
  • [b] Gabriello di Soldo Strozzi, heir to the parish church's patronage rights, was descendant of M. Ubertino di Geri Strozzi. However, Ubertino's three sons, Soldo, Niccolò, and Giovanni, lived in the century prior to the tomb's date of 1452.
  • [c] Patronage rights to the parish church inherited through Gabbriello di Soldo Strozzi passed to the Guiducci da Spicchio family in 1574, suggesting that he was most likely heir to the tomb as well. It was still dedicated to the Strozzi in the 1650s when Stefano Rosselli described it in his sepoltuario.
  • [d] Though Rosselli records a date of 1452 on the tomb dedicated to the unnamed sons of M. Ubertino Strozzi, it is possible that this date is either an error of transcription for 1352 or that it was renovated, rededicated, or installed new in 1452.
