Strozzi, Ubertino (messer) di Geri di M. Ubertino di Strozza di Arduino Rosso

Description

There are discrepancies in the sources as to the lineage of messer Ubertino, lawyer and judge, who was appears in legal documents between 1288 and 1311. The Carte Mariani Dei and Pompeo Litta indicates that he is the grandson of the knight messer Ubertino di Strozza Strozzi and son of Geri while the Priorista Mariani, the online Tratte, and Giuseppe Mastursi say that Ubertino di Strozza was a judge, and not a knight.

Notes

  • [a] Litta records that messer Ubertino was among the "sindaci del Podestà" of Florence in 1290.
  • [b] According to Litta, messer Ubertino served as judge in Pistoia in 1291.
  • [c] Litta records that messer Ubertino served with Guazzano de'Pigli as a representative (sindaco) to the Congress of Castelfiorentino.
  • [d] Though the tomb's inscription provided no patronym and was installed in 1452, the most likely candidate for the honoree is the judge messer Ubertino di Geri Strozzi, whose son Soldo received patronage rights to the church in 1344 that he shared with the Spinelli di Castelfiorentino family. Whether the 1452 tomb replaced an earlier one is difficult to determine but seems likely.
