Notes

  • [a] As noted in the 1439 sepoltuario and the Priorista Mariani, the heirs of Chiarino di Davanzato (act.1317-1318) owned a gravesite in the north cemetery of Santa Croce. The 1596 copy and Stefano Rosselli note that it was conceded to Guido di Giovanni di Bartolo Gucci on January 3, 1337. Whether it carried any decoration or was used for family burials is unclear.
  • [b] The 1439 sepoltuario records this tomb as belonging to the heirs of Chiarino di Davanzato, strongly suggesting that he had first acquired usage rights in the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. Chiarino served the Oltrarno in the priorate from December 15th, 1317 through February 14th, 1318.
  • [c] As one of Chiarino's heirs, Piero owned the tomb after his father's death. He may have been the one to concede his family's rights to it, perhaps wishing to be buried closer to his home in the Oltrarno.
