Notes

  • [a] Lucantonio may have established his tomb around the time he wrote his will.
  • [b] Though he would have inherited rights to the tomb in Santa Maria Novella, Giovanni Maria had married a Venetian and died in Venice. His testament, if it exists, would confirm his burial location.
  • [c] Lucantonio died in Venice on April 3, 1533, and it would have taken at least a week to get his body back to Florence for burial.
  • [d] According to Massimo Ceresa, Francesca died in Florence, and it is likely she joined her husband in the Santa Maria Novella tomb
  • [e] The copyist of the Sermartelli sepoltuario noted that this friar of Santa Maria Novella was heir to the family and restored their tomb in 1722.
