S. Croce 012b Velluti tomb:

Notes

  • [a] According to Giuresco, the Zati family were the first to hold patronage rights to the chapel, which was ultimately decorated and dedicated by members of the Velluti family, who were seen as the traditional owners by the time of the 1439 sepoltuario.
  • [b] Members of the Velluti family, including the widow of Lippo di Corso, commissioned murals and a wrought iron gate for the chapel's decoration.
  • [c] The second wife and widow of Lippo di Corso Velluti, Gemma ordered completion of the chapel's decoration in 1328.
  • [d] Though the patronage rights to the chapel quickly passed to the Velluti family, a Zati coat of arms remains in the mural decoration. It was not recorded in the sepoltuari, however, and may have been obscured or a reconstruction by the restorer Galileo Chini in 1899.
  • [e] The 1596 Santa Croce sepoltuario notes that ownership had passed to Senator Girolamo Morelli, and Stefano Rosselli drew their arms alongside those of the Velluti in his 1657 sepoltuario.
