Notes

  • [a] Bice, the widow of M. Filippo di Pagno Strozzi, left funds in her testament of 1363 to decorate the chapel and endow an annual feast for the friars. Archivio Santa Maria Novella, I.A.3, fol. 28. Several of her descendants would leave additional funds for the chapel over the next century, including her great-great grandsons, both named Benedetto, who installed -- or refurbished -- a tomb in the chapel that carried their names.
  • [b] According to Pompeo Litta, Antonio left funds for the chapel of the Annunciation that had been founded by his ancestors at Santa Maria Novella.
