Notes

  • [] The poor quality of the carving has confused the sepoltuarists into thinking the Cecchi were the Decchi.
  • [a] The surviving marker makes clear that the honoree is the notary Ser Sano di Ser Pietro di Ser Mariano. Though Rosselli misread his source, whether another manuscript or the marker itself, the family name is Cecchi, not Dechi, as recognized in the anonymous sepoltuario of the S. Spirito quarter and confirmed by the presence of this notary and his father and grandfather in notarial and election records.
  • [b] Rosselli describes as "cancellata” but can make out neck and body of dragon; Cecchi tree describes as "drago a giacere senza gambe"
  • [c] no month or day in inscription suggests he commissioned the marker during his lifetime; confirmed in Mariani Dei tree
  • [d] father's tomb
  • [e] inscription; arms drawn but identified as cancelled
