Notes

  • [a] In 1636, a miraculous Crucifixion, the Crocifisso della Providenza, was moved to the Ferrucci family chapel dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, from its original location in the crypt of the Serragli chapel. At this time it was rededicated as the Cappella del Crocifisso and came under the patronage of the Compagnia di Sant'Alberto Bianco, a group formed in 1565 when the Compagnia del Crocifisso and the Compagnia di Sant'Alberto nero joined together as a single sodality. They also brought with them an altarpiece that had been painted in 1483 and displayed confratelli in its predella wearing black robes. After 1565 they wore white.
  • [b] The Compagnia di Sant'Alberto bianco refurbished the chapel with gilded stuccoes and paintings in both fresco and oil.
