S. Croce 001b sepoltura di Agostino Dini:

Notes

  • [a] Francesco della Foresta and Stefano Rosselli drew the Dini stemma showing an uprooted tree crowned by a band inscribed "Libertà." It certainly adorned the lost tomb at the foot of the altar and likely appeared in the entablature and/or elsewhere on the altar itself.
  • [b] The altarpiece by Francesco (Cecchino) Salviati depicts the Deposition from the Cross. It was moved when the altar was destroyed and is now in the Medici Chapel in the novitiate.
  • [c] The Dini altar was dismantled to make way for a large tomb honoring the dramaturge Giovanni Battista Niccolini (d. 1861), which was completed in 1883.
