The fourteenth-century church of San Romolo was suppressed in 1769 and converted into a home for the Bombicci family in 1786. The Palazzo Bombicci fills the block between via de' Calzaiuoli 2–12r at the corner with via della Condotta and faces the Piazza della Signoria at no. 5. It stands as a rare survivor of the mid-nineteenth-century widening of the via de' Calzaiuoli. The facade over the piazza was designed by Bernardo Fallani (1739–1806). A plaque on the facade comemmorates the lost church.
