The church complex of San Remigio fills a small city block bound at the north by via Vinegia, the east by via de' Rustici, the south by via de' Neri, and the west by piazza di San Remigio. The church itself fills almost half the block, and the cloister once took up much of the remainder. Five properties belonging to the parish filled the side facing via de' Neri as claimed in the 1427 catasto when the house at the corner of via S. Romeo and via de' Neri was rented to Ugolino di Giovanni Ugolini, the neighboring house by Giorgio tavernaio, whose neighbor was Domenico stovigliaio, followed by Simone fabbro and lastly a shoemaker. Rental payments on these properties would have provided a steady source of income to the parish. In 1561, as recorded in the Decima, the rector of S. Remigio occupied the house on the southeast corner while the remainder continued to be rented by working-class Florentines including a baker, a tinker, a fodder-seller, and a merchant. For the 1427 catasto declaration of the church of San Remigio see ASF, Catasto, 194, fol. 88. For the 1561 census visit DECIMA and search for San Remigio
