Lapi

Rosselli indexed four tombs in two Oltrarno churches under the name "Lapi in S. Spirito," but inconsistencies among them suggest that they were at least two, if not four, distinct groups.

This group’s tomb in Santo Spirito had arms that were too ruined to decipher. Both della Foresta and Rosselli note that the inscription was also illegible, but they identified the honoree as Bartolo Lapi.

Notes

  • [a] Indexed together by Rosselli. Both families used the surname Lapi on their tombs, but only one had a coat of arms.
  • [b] Indexed together by Rosselli. One family used Lapi as a surname and had arms, while the other used Lapo as a first name and avonym (grandfather's name) with no arms.
  • [c] Indexed together by Rosselli. Both had coats of arms, though only one was drawn by Rosselli. The family with the lost arms used Lapi as a surname. The family with known arms used Lapo as an avonym (grandfather’s name).
