  • [a] While living in Avignon as treasurer to Pope John XXII (r. 7 August 1316–December 1334), Cantino di Nerlo Nerli drew up his testament that included a provision to endow the high altar chapel at Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence. He died in Avignon later that year.
