  • [a] Giovanni Ghiberti expressed his wish for a chapel to be built in the cloister of the Angeli in his testament of June 1363, while he had specified his burial place at the Badia of Florence in an earlier statement of 1361.
  • [b] The Registro Nuovo of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Bent 1993, p. 632, doc. 21) records Giovanni Ghiberti's date of death.
  • [c] In his testament dated June 5th, 1363, Giovanni requested anniversary masses on the date of his death and on the feast of Saint Romuald (June 19th), to whom his chapel was dedicated.
  • [d] In his testament dated May 29th, 1361, Giovanni Ghiberti requested burial in the Badia of Florence, suggesting that his family's tomb was extant from before that time. He left funds to his parish churches of S. Michele in Palchetto, his home parish, and S.Cristoforo, where a kinsman Giovanni di Doffo Ghiberti was rector, to the hospital of S. Maria Nuova, and to the monastery of S. Maria degli Angeli where his brother Michele had professed in 1348.
